Information handled
What information may be collected
If you contact SMG Services by phone or email, information may include your name, contact details, property or postcode information, photographs you choose to send, and details about the work you are asking about.
If you choose to accept analytics, Google Analytics may collect information such as page visits, session information, approximate location, browser/device information and interactions with phone or email links. The website does not send the contents of your emails or telephone calls to Google Analytics.
Why information is used
Purposes and lawful bases
- To respond to enquiries, arrange appointments, prepare quotations and provide requested services.
- To keep appropriate business, contractual, warranty, tax or legal records where required.
- To understand how the website is used and improve it, but only where you have chosen to allow Google Analytics.
Enquiry and service information is generally handled because it is necessary to take steps at your request, perform a contract, meet legal obligations, or pursue legitimate business interests that do not override your rights. Google Analytics is enabled only after your consent.
Analytics choices
Cookies and similar technologies
This website stores an analytics preference in your browser so it can remember whether you accepted or declined analytics. This preference does not contain your name or contact details and is refreshed at least every 180 days.
If you accept analytics, Google Analytics may set first-party cookies including _ga and _ga_<container-id>. Google documents a default expiry of up to two years for these cookies, although browser limits may shorten this. SMG Services keeps Google Analytics user- and event-level data for no longer than 14 months; aggregated reporting may remain available for longer.
You can change your choice at any time using the Analytics settings control shown on the website. Declining analytics does not stop you using the website or contacting SMG Services.
Sharing
Who information may be shared with
Personal information is only shared where reasonably necessary, for example with service providers used to operate email, communications, hosting or website analytics, or where disclosure is required by law. When analytics is accepted, website usage information is processed using Google Analytics. Google may process information outside the UK using its applicable data-transfer safeguards.
SMG Services does not sell website visitor or customer personal information.
Retention
How long information is kept
Enquiry and job records are kept only for as long as reasonably needed for the enquiry, service relationship, warranty, accounting, tax or legal requirements. Where records are needed for contractual or legal purposes they may be kept for up to six years after the relevant work or relationship ends.
Analytics user- and event-level data is kept for no longer than 14 months. Analytics cookie lifetimes are described above and may be shorter depending on browser settings.
Your rights
Your data-protection rights
Depending on the circumstances, you may have rights to ask for access to your personal information, correction, deletion, restriction or objection to certain processing, and data portability. Where processing relies on consent, you can withdraw that consent at any time without affecting earlier lawful processing.
To exercise a right or ask a privacy question, email smgservicesltd@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office if you are unhappy with how your information is handled.
